Okay, so maybe "saved" is stretching it. We've been going strong for eight years as of this past December, and well, neither of us can really complain.
Before we gave into iPhone lust in November, I was prone to regularly--well, perhaps constantly is a better adverb--forgetting my cell phone. It was a lovely little phone, don't get me wrong. I blame the fact that I was preparing a 5, 3, and 1 year-old, as well as myself, for the day every morning. In my defense, it's really damn hard to find four pairs of matching socks in the morning. :)
This forgetfulness understandably drove my poor spouse out of his mind. Trying to coordinate our work schedules--his highly irregular and involving rotating overnight shiftwork--and school and day care pick-ups when I was stranded on I-25 in traffic, incommunicado, was maddening.
Oh, how I tried to remember that poor little phone! I taped a sign that said "PHONE!!!" to the door out to the garage to remind myself to grab my little blue LG on the way out. It worked for one day. I considered taping a similar notice to the steering wheel of the minivan, but that just seemed pathetic. And, like the door-to-the-garage sign, it seemed as though it would lose its effectiveness rapidly.
Enter the iPhone. It's just not possible for me to forget it! I confess that I've had to turn around once since November on the way to work to get it, but my phone remembering record has much improved, much to my husband's relief.
We felt guilty for a while after that trip to the Apple Store. We sent photos to each other, realizing that our other phones had that capability, too. We'd browse the web, remembering the hackneyed little browser on the other phones that just wasn't full-blown Safari, and that for whatever reason, couldn't open my work webmail. They charge on our nightstands every night, which is helpful when it comes to dressing the offspring in the morning (the weather app). And yet, I somehow still remember to take it down to my purse in the morning.
