I guess I'm so used to bad news about library budget cuts that I didn't know what to make of this headline:
"Denver Cuts Spare Libraries and Rec"
I found myself wondering how they determined which libraries were spare and which weren't. Turns out that "Cuts" is a noun in this sentence; unfortunately, we're so used to it being the verb before "library budget."
"'I don't think the citizens are going to notice the impact of this list at all,' said Ed Scholz, the mayor's director of budget and management. 'We stayed away from direct services to citizens, like libraries and rec centers.'"
